Essential oils are one of those things that once you start using them, you wonder how you ever lived without them. Dr. Katie Layden at RAK Chiropractic in Rochester, MN shares three of her favorite oils that she uses every single day, and the ways she uses them might surprise you.

Three Essential Oils Dr. Katie Swears By
Lemon
Lemon is one of the most versatile oils you can keep on hand. Dr. Katie uses it three ways: adding a couple drops to her water daily to support kidney and liver health (just make sure you use a glass or stainless steel bottle, not plastic), removing sticky residue from stickers and bandages, and as the base of her homemade household cleaner mixed with distilled water and a few drops of tea tree oil.
Peppermint
Peppermint is Dr. Katie’s go-to for head tension. A couple drops on the temples or the back of the neck can help you unwind after a long day. She also keeps a car diffuser loaded with peppermint for those moments when fatigue starts creeping in on a drive. You can even add a drop or two to your water or baking for a fresh, natural flavor boost.
Lavender
Lavender is the calming oil of the three. It is great for winding down before bed, soothing minor skin irritations and blemishes, and easing feelings of anxiety. Dr. Katie even used it in her homemade baby wipe recipe paired with tea tree oil for a gentle, effective clean.
Use All Three Together for Seasonal Allergies
Here is where it gets interesting. Lemon, lavender, and peppermint together make a popular natural remedy for seasonal allergy symptoms like itchy eyes and a runny nose. Dr. Katie puts two drops of each into a veggie capsule, seals it up, and takes it like a supplement. Simple, natural, and something a lot of people swear by when allergy season hits Rochester.
